Sterile Processing Supervisor

Responsibilities
Performs decontamination functions: disassembles, cleans, and disinfects instruments and equipment used for patient care; operates equipment used in the decontamination process (sonic washer, cart washers, washer sterilizers, decontaminators); unloads case carts containing soiled instruments and places in designated areas; performs cleaning tasks in the work area; uses universal precautions; utilizes computer systems to track instruments and case carts.
Assembles instrument trays and packs: unloads instruments from washer sterilizers and distributes to appropriate workstations; assembles instrument trays and packs using written instructions and proper protocol; applies sterilization wrappers; uses heat sealer as needed; correctly labels outside packaging; transports trays to the sterilization area.
Operates sterilizers, documents loads, and returns stock to appropriate area: loads trays, packs, and basins onto sterilizer loading racks; maintains competencies with steam, EtO, plasma, and Steris sterilization modalities; selects correct cycle and time; documents sterilization information; performs biological monitoring per departmental policy; restocks sterile supplies; ensures equipment is functioning properly; understands ethylene oxide sterilization and evacuation procedures.
Assembles case carts per departmental procedures.
Shift Supervisor: supervises staff and operations of sterile processing activities, including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization, storing and distribution of supplies and case carts used in OR/OB and other areas; monitors workload and staffing; maintains appropriate staffing levels; provides guidance and coaching to achieve departmental goals; acts as a resource in the absence of the Instrument Processing Technician; ensures adherence to aseptic procedures and guidelines; provides input on evaluations and corrective actions.
Other: maintains barcode tracking, participates in QA activities and six sigma teams, keeps work areas clean and organized, assists with one-on-one training, follows departmental sterility guidelines, communicates courteously with customers, and delivers equipment and supplies as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Required: HS/GED. Preferred: Associate's Degree.
Current registration as a CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician).
3 years in SPD required; 5 years preferred.
