Overview

About The Role The responsibilities of this classification include supervising and directing the overall instrumentation and electrical maintenance teams and programs for the West Point wastewater treatment plant and West Section Offsite facilities. Maintenance programs include repair, replacement, and preventative maintenance of industrial instrumentation equipment, electrical and instrumentation control systems. Incumbents supervise and direct the work of lead, skilled trades, semi-skilled trades, engineering, and technical support positions. Incumbents also assist the treatment plant manager in the development, implementation, and revision of short- and long-term goals and objectives for the plant’s operation and maintenance.
The primary function of this role is to lead, direct, and supervise the team members (instrument technicians, HVAC technicians, and electricians both in-plant and offsite) assigned to West Operations & Maintenance Unit. As a Wastewater Maintenance Supervisor within the Operations and Maintenance team, you are expected to be a “People Leader”; to lead and develop your team to align with the County and Wastewater Treatment Division leaderships goals, expectations, standards, and initiatives. You will be a mentor and guide to those working within your team and those that work with your team.

What You Will Be Doing
Supervise and direct the work of lead, skilled trades, semi-skilled trades, engineering, and technical support positions assigned to the maintenance program. Supervisory responsibilities include hiring, evaluating performance, training, and disciplinary actions.
Supervise the review and coordination of preventative and maintenance practices including life cycle analysis of equipment and forecasting short- and long-term equipment needs, replacements, and repairs.
Develop and implement the work unit’s operating and capital budgets; monitor expenditures to ensure the budget is within established guidelines.
Develop, implement, and maintain internal maintenance policies and procedures for all equipment and systems at the treatment plant.
Represent the section and/or division on capital replacement, expansion, and new facility projects; provide input on maintenance requirements and technical expertise during development, implementation, and start-up of projects.
Participate in planning, development, and implementation of systems and processes to support the maintenance program; participate as a management team member on internal and external committees.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications You Bring
Advanced knowledge of and experience in a skilled trade or craft occupation, or equivalent combination of education and technical discipline such as engineering.
Strong knowledge of pumps, motors, HVAC systems, SCADA systems, and instrumentation.
Knowledge of maintenance techniques and practices in an industrial environment; preventive maintenance programs and asset management systems.
Ability to supervise staff and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems; ensure employee safety compliance within guidelines and regulations.
Advanced experience (3+ years) in maintenance and repair of equipment used in wastewater treatment facilities.

Experience with Capital Project teams, consultants, or contractors
Experience with CMMS systems and using data effectively
Progressive experience in industrial maintenance, craft, or trade
Experience managing budgets and capital project support
Experience in planning, scheduling, coordination, and prioritization
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Strong mechanical, machining, and welding background
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically move around county worksites and observe work and participate in planning.
Must be able to drive to different locations throughout the service area.
Workplace Exposure
Potential exposure to wastewater treatment process areas, chemicals, biological processes, sludges, waters, and high/noise areas.

Work Schedule:
Full-time, 40-hour work week. This position is exempt from overtime under FLSA.
