Overview
The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH) is seeking experienced and committed Environmental Service Specialist I roles for the Environmental Services (EVS) Department at the Jamaica Plain campus. The EVS Specialist is responsible for cleaning floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and washing; interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings, and windows; lavatories, washrooms, and mop closets. The incumbent operates equipment specific to an environmental services department, including floor machines, Kai Vac, automatic scrubbers, high-speed burnishers, and other related equipment.
Shift Availability Multiple full-time vacancies across multiple shifts (Day, Evening or Night).
Schedules
Day: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Evening: 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Night: 11:15 p.m. to 7:15 a.m.
Responsibilities
Cleans floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and washing using appropriate supplies and equipment.
Cleans interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings, windows, and furniture by dusting, polishing, and washing using appropriate supplies and equipment.
Cleans toilets, lavatories, washrooms, mop closets, etc., to maintain appearance and cleanliness.
Empty waste receptacles and disposes of general waste and infectious and hazardous waste.
Cleans furniture such as beds, dressers, chairs, tables, over-bed tables, etc., to maintain appearance and cleanliness.
Strip, scrub, seal, and finish floors as required using appropriate supplies and equipment.
Remakes beds after washing using appropriate linen supplies.
Removes and re-hangs window draperies and bedside curtains as required to maintain appearance and cleanliness.
Operates battery-powered equipment designed to wash, scrub and polish hard floor surfaces. Follows manufacturers' procedures and safety guidelines for operation and maintenance.
Sets up and breaks down conference rooms for meetings and other functions.
Follows policy/procedure for Terminal Cleaning in patient rooms upon discharge and long-term care patients, at the designated interval set forth by policy.
Inspects assigned areas to ensure work has been performed following established procedures.
Required Qualifications
Ability to follow oral and written instructions/directions.
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and lift/carry heavy objects, with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior cleaning, custodial, or housekeeping experience.
About Lemuel Shattuck Hospital Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. It serves economically and socially disadvantaged patients with high-quality, cost-effective care from a respectful staff. Located in Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the hospital includes 248 inpatient beds (including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds) and a full outpatient clinic serving patients of the Department of Mental Health, Department of Correction, and House of Correction inmates and community patients. The hospital is active in substance use disorder treatment, including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients, and supports services for patients with addictions and homelessness on campus.
