Overview
Position: Pre-College Coordinator/Advisor, Upward Bound (Grant Funded Program) Reports to: Director, Upward Bound Department: Upward Bound Classification: Exempt Job Type: Full Time Funding: This position is funded through September 30, 2029 Responsibilities
1. Recruits potential participants, conducts interviews and completes application process. 2. Advises students on course/program selection and scheduling in collaboration with Benton Harbor High School counselors and teachers. 3. Completes Educational Development Plans and updates. 4. Advises participants, in cooperation with Benton Harbor High School and college counselors and teachers, facilitating referrals both within and outside the Upward Bound project as appropriate to improve school retention. 5. Assists in skills-building in core curriculum, and test preparation for standardized and college-entry tests. 6. Conducts postsecondary follow-up. 7. Assists participants in career exploration. 8. Coordinates college campus visits, business tours, and other trips for project participants. 9. Participates in Saturday College Prep and cultural/social activities. 10. Assists participants in the preparation of college, scholarship, and financial aid applications. 11. Facilitates financial aid and financial literacy/economic workshops. 12. Participates in project and staff evaluations and prepares monthly reports. Participates in program review of LMC grant programs. 13. Participates in staff development and in-service meetings. 14. Collect, manage, and maintain academic, demographic, and Upward Bound activity data that is to be reported on the Annual Performance Report as designated by the U.S. Department of Education. Other Duties: Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of two years successful experience in educational and/or counseling activities required. Supervisory experience required. Experience in administering, scoring, and interpreting academic and career assessment measurements preferred. Experience in career counseling, knowledge of college admissions and financial aid procedures preferred. Knowledge of Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) confidentiality standards. To provide the best service to our external and internal customers, all positions at Lake Michigan College require regular and predicable on-site attendance as an essential job functions. Under certain circumstances, the College may consider alternative work arrangements and will do so in compliance with and according to the parameters outlined in the College’s Flexible Scheduling and Remote Work Options policy.
