Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC), founded in 1953, is located in Upstate NY with campuses in Troy and Malta. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs across three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and STEM. The college is part of the SUNY system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year. HVCC supports career and transfer preparation, workforce training initiatives, distance learning, and service to a diverse student population, with HVCC North and the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center in Troy.

In order to be considered, you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States. Appointment is contingent upon completion of a background check.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, education, counseling, or related field. Experience in counseling or advisement at the post-secondary level and prior experience with academic advising. Experience in programs/activities to support academic success or teaching at the post-secondary level. Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with college students and faculty.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in counseling, education, or related field. College advising experience in liberal arts disciplines. Experience using college academic software systems such as Banner and Degree Works.
Nature and Scope of Duties The Advising Specialist reports to the Department Chair or designee and performs duties including:
Provide academic advisement to students in all programs within the Department.
Advise students on career objectives, transfer opportunities, and program choice.
Assist students in the selection and scheduling of courses.
Evaluate transfer credits in coordination with the appropriate Department Chairperson.
Advise students on the impact of scheduling decisions on financial aid and academic standing.
Assist students seeking course withdrawal, termination, cross-registration, and curriculum change.
Refer students to available student development and academic support resources.
Participate in academic activities within the Department of Education & Social Sciences when appropriate.
Maintain working knowledge of College services, policies and procedures affecting the academic success of students.
Collaborate with other advisors to develop in-person and web-based tools to assist students with advisement and registration.
Maintain appropriate records of student advisement sessions.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
May be assigned to other campus areas in need of advisement.
Compensation:
Part-Time positions with an hourly rate of $27.00 with a BA and $30.00 with an MA.
