Overview
Commercial Surety Underwriting Officer (AVP or VP) role at Zurich North America. Location options include Chicago, Schaumburg (IL), Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, or Indiana. This is a highly technical underwriting role focused on overall account management, business development, and analysis of a complex Commercial Surety book. The role works within delegated authority levels and the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework to deliver high-quality service to customers. Responsibilities
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities. Qualify accounts to align with the organization\'s appetite and negotiate terms and conditions to close deals. Cross-sell other lines of business to increase product density with accounts. Update required systems with broker/client visits and account status within the specified time frame. Calculate target price using underwriting tools accurately. Diagnose and develop recommendations to solve unique business unit and customer problems. Demonstrate specialized knowledge and expertise in products and industry. Administer and monitor underwriting rules, insurance laws, and rating manuals. Operate at the highest authority limits on assignments with the highest degree of technical complexity and coordination. Qualifications
AVP Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of experience in underwriting, market facing, finance, accounting, or banking; or 10+ years in claims or underwriting support; or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in the specified areas; or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years in claims or underwriting support (with relevant experience). Knowledge of Microsoft Office. Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business. Experience working in a team environment. VP Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent and 7+ years of underwriting, market facing, finance, accounting, or banking experience; or 14+ years in claims or underwriting support; or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5+ years in the underwriting-related areas; or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 12+ years in claims or underwriting support (with relevant experience). Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree. Surety knowledge/experience and knowledge of legal/regulatory guidelines. Understanding of broker relationship structures. Ability to analyze and understand complicated credit assessments, trends, and strategies. Curiosity-driven investigative skills to understand business strategies and complex contracts. Ability to articulate strategies and financial concepts with fact-based conclusions. Experience managing/growing a profitable portfolio of customers. Negotiation experience with brokers and large organizations. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Compensation and Location
The compensation range is nationwide and varies by office location, role, experience, and skill set. The combined salary range for this position is $98,500.00 - $215,000.00. AVP level: $98,500.00 - $165,000.00 with up to 15% short-term incentive; VP level: $130,000.00 - $215,000.00 with up to 20% short-term incentive. Location and Schedule
