Position Summary

The EMS Education Coordinator leads the education and training activities of Rice EMS, including programs for First Responders, EMTs, and Advanced EMTs, as well as continuing education for our providers. The role includes mentorship, clinical supervision, and education to help students build technical expertise as well as teamwork and communication skills essential to health care. The position shapes the next generation of health care providers and contributes to Rice EMSs mission on campus, supporting campus events, hurricane response, and routine operations in classroom, meetings, and field settings.

Workplace Requirements

This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in person and on campus. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range: $72,100 to $80,400, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year-for-year basis may be substituted 3 years of experience as a clinical leader in a prehospital setting, and/or experience as an EMS educator

Licenses

Must possess (or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with no more than three moving violations and/or at-fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past three years Texas Paramedic EMS Certification or Licensure (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire) Texas EMS Instructor (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire) National Incident Management System Training, including ICS 100, 200, 700 & 800 National Incident Management System Training, including ICS 300, 400 (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire)

Advanced knowledge of EMS practices, medical terminology, EMS equipment and medical systems Excellent leadership and management skills, demonstrated ability to motivate others Excellent listening, verbal, visual and written communications skills and presentation skills Comfort with presentations, media interviews, press releases, report preparation and personnel instructions Analytical, conflict resolution, critical thinking, decision making, and problem solving skills

Essential Functions

Education & Training – Recruit, train, and supervise instructional staff; maintain Texas EMS Instructor and Course Coordinator qualifications; evaluate instructional performance Student Mentorship – Guide EMS student leaders in education policies, program management, and responsible financial practices Program Oversight – Maintain Rice EMS licensure as an initial and continuing education program; oversee program operations and quality standards Clinical Coordination – Manage clinical scheduling, training agreements, and development of new clinical sites; maintain training equipment and resources Emergency Response – Provide prehospital emergency medical care, supervise EMS operations during large-scale campus events, and serve on the Crisis Management Team Financial Management – Oversee program budgets, ensure fiscal responsibility, and pursue grant opportunities Other Duties – Support additional responsibilities as assigned to advance Rice EMS and campus safety
