Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineer or related discipline; advance degree preferred
10+ years of experience with robotics, control system design and analysis, and related software algorithms
Experience in fiber optics alignment systems, optical testing equipment, and related methodologies
Prior experience designing robotic systems with sub-micron precision; understands optical mechanical hardware (motors, stages, actuators, etc.)
Prior experience in testing silicon photonics devices is highly preferred
Prior experience in the application of AI/ML for enhanced automation algorithms is highly preferred
Experience with mechanical engineering tools: Solidworks CAD, PDM, PLM systems
Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment
Opportunity Overview Teradyne is seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior Mechanical Engineer - Automation to develop active optical alignment systems for high volume manufacturing test of silicon photonics devices, including wafers, optical engines, and co-packaged optics. These test solutions may require either active or passive alignment systems with sub-micron precision, while meeting the highest of reliability and repeatability standards. A solid foundation of knowledge in robotics, fiber optics, electronics, mechanical, and software development is essential to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our testing processes.
Design and develop robotic automation systems for optical alignment used for silicon photonics testing
Collaborate with diverse cross-functional team to define control software and algorithms for robotic alignment systems
Collaborate with diverse cross-functional teams to define test requirements and specifications
Conduct data analysis to troubleshoot and optimize the alignment system
Maintain and improve existing alignment systems for enhanced performance and reliability
Document test procedures, results, and system configurations
Stay updated with advancements in silicon photonics, testing methodologies, and robotic alignment technology and algorithms
