The Data Transformation team is responsible for building and operating batch and real time transformation pipelines and platforms for 400+ product teams at Stripe. We're aiming to make data development and management workflow at Stripe a breeze with emphasis on producing high quality datasets used for critical analytics, dashboards and workflows at Stripe. The Products owned by this team are widely adopted with 450+ weekly active users improving developer productivity for data users by many folds. The team is in an interesting phase of innovation tied to topmost priority for Stripe building and executing the strategic roadmap for streaming transformation, incremental processing and ergonomic data modeling. We empower our users ranging from Data Scientists to Engineers building pipelines to create exceptional Stripe product experiences while providing a robust transformation platform for critical dashboarding, analytics and workflows at Stripe including: user-facing reporting products Sigma, Radar Merchant facing dashboards Payments (pay-in and payout) Ledger Financial Data Reconciliation Regulatory Reporting Machine Learning TechOps, Customer Success and GTM Data Scientist & Analyst Link, Issuing, Banking and the list goes on… We adopt a combination of open source technologies and in-house built software to ensure high scalability, reliability, and usability of our transformation offerings. Key example technologies used include: Spark, Airflow, Iceberg, Hive, S3, SQL, Python, Scala, GRPC, Kafka and FlinkSQL. It’s a high stake and high visibility role, especially as a Staff Engineer, you will be one of the most senior members in the org. You will be driving critical workstreams for Stripe’s topmost priorities around delivering high quality, materialized datasets Stripe products and AI agents. As a Staff Software Engineer on our team, you will do the following: Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain innovative next-generation or first-generation versions of solutions and products, with an emphasis on reliability, scalability and usability. Define and design opinionated architectural strategies, policies, and abstractions that build a long term sustainable solution for internal Stripes, that will in turn enhance the experience of millions of Stripe users. Ensure operational excellence and enable a highly available & reliable Data Transformation platform across streaming and batch workloads, delivering a world-class data creation and management ecosystem. Collaborate nimbly with cross functional partners (PM), high-visibility teams and their stakeholders to support their key initiatives - navigating various types of organizational complexity with the support of your own leadership team. Partner with Engineering Management, Product Manager and key leaders across the company to create and drive toward the longer term vision of Stripe’s Data Transformation roadmap Lead and manage a team of talented engineers on the team, providing technical mentorship, guidance, and support to ensure their success Who you are

10+ years of professional experience writing high quality production level code or software programs, with a focus on large scale backend infrastructure. Has very strong operational experience with large-scale, high-availability data pipelines from design, to execution, and safe change management. Has experience building infrastructure-as-a-product with a strong focus on users needs Has strong collaboration and communication skills, and can comfortably interact with both technical and non-technical participants. Has the curiosity to continuously learn about new technologies and business processes. Is energized by delivering effective, user-first solutions through creative problem-solving and collaboration. Preferred qualifications
Has experience writing production-level code and expertise in Flink, Spark, Airflow, Python, Java, SQL, Trino, Pinot, and API design is a plus. Experience packaging and deploying code into cloud-based environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) with tools including Bazel, Docker Containers, etc Has experience designing APIs or building developer platforms Has experience with scaling distributed systems in a rapidly moving environment Has experience working with data pipelines Experience with industry-grade data transformation solutions such as dbt; familiarity with SQLMesh is a plus Genuine enjoyment of innovation and a deep interest in understanding how things work This role is available either in an office or a remote location (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office). Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams. A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently live or plan to live. The annual US base salary range for this role is $224,000 - $336,000. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location.
