Overview
Advanced Quality Engineer based at 1350 Franklin Grove Road, Dixon, IL 61021. Hybrid role with work from home and the office; must live within a reasonable commuting distance. Travel up to 20% internationally and domestically. Responsibilities
Drive discipline within the programs team (CFT) to deliver on time according to the APQP process (PDP / NPDP). Own the qualitative content of product and process design deliverables; collaborate with cross-functional teams on local programs. Focus on design for manufacturing and assembly within D/PMEA; develop and manage the Control Plan for local programs to meet plant performance and customer requirements at SOP. Serve as the quality lead and Voice of Quality (VOQ) in APQP/program management for application programs, D/PFMEA, control plan, and PPAP. Ensure BorgWarner processes, standards, and program-specific requirements are implemented and followed; translate customer quality requirements into deliverables for the project team/plant. Provide 100% oversight for all local APQP 8Ds; conduct deep dives on global and focus programs (product and process validation and verification; PPAP). Identify systemic failure lessons learned, read-across, and front-loading in APQP; champion a culture of continuous improvement; drive run@rate targets. Monitor program KPIs with the program team (CFT) and initiate actions as needed; lead audits on local programs and develop corrective actions with cross-functional teams (e.g., Pre-Gate/Pre-EOT audits, Gate Reviews, Launch Audits). Escalate program-specific quality risks and serve as the primary quality contact for customers on quality matters (claims, PPAP timing, Run@Rate timing, action plan status). Ensure program team discipline to ensure all (N)PDP/APQP deliverables are available on time; provide regular status updates to the Program Manager/Advanced Quality Manager and the customer. Assume plant quality engineer responsibilities: lead and track 8-D corrective and preventative actions, administer BW PPAP processes, support change management, lead APQP for new product launches and existing lines, analyze warranty data for trends, oversee product analysis (destructive and non-destructive testing), develop reliability analyses to support predictive quality planning, and maintain quality system procedures. Provide technical leadership, training, and lessons learned to manufacturing, suppliers, customers, peers, and management; participate in issue resolution; promote safety and compliance with plant code of conduct and housekeeping practices; serve as PFMEA and Change Management Coordinator. Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Technology or Automotive Engineering and 36 months of experience in automotive manufacturing quality. Experience
must include: experience using automotive core tools (APQP, MSA, PPAP, FMEA, SPC); experience with DFM/A; experience supporting strategic change and diagnosing operational issues; experience with APQP process with an automotive OEM; experience with Six Sigma Green Belt methodologies; reading and analyzing mechanical drawings; applying mechanical measurement techniques (CMM, roundness scanning, contour graphs, surface roughness, measurement tools); experience using 8D/8 Steps, 5 Whys, and Quality Alerts to resolve quality issues.
