This position will team with senior level attorneys to represent MEM and/or its policyholders in workers' compensation litigation, primarily through settlement, while assisting senior attorneys with discovery, trial, and appeal. The role includes issuing advisory opinions on legal issues, including policy inception and coverage as appropriate. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Other duties or audits may be assigned, including audits requiring physical visits within expansion states near the auditor’s location. LITIGATION ATTORNEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Perform job duties in accordance with MEM’s vision, mission, and values. Attend conferences, prehearings, and mediation sessions, and negotiate and settle claims. Provide legal advice to claims, other company personnel, and policyholders as requested. Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel with professionalism and discretion. Facilitate prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of cases. Assist with the preparation and presentation of witnesses and evidence at depositions, trials, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolutions. Prepare pleadings, discovery documents, depositions, motions, and briefs to support defense strategies with autonomy. Draft legal documents and memoranda. Negotiate settlement of workers' compensation claims within authority granted by claims representatives. Conduct legal research, prepare written opinions, and provide informal advice to claims representatives, management, and other departments. Build effective working relationships with internal clients, particularly the claims team, providing high-quality professional services aligned with business strategies. Inform claims personnel and policyholders about litigation plans and developments. Assist claims subrogation personnel to protect and recover MEM’s third-party actions. Attend continuing legal education seminars to maintain professional expertise. Perform other duties as directed by senior management and legal leadership. QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Juris Doctor Degree. Licensed to practice in Kansas and/or Missouri. Licenses:

Valid driver’s license required. Experience: At least one year of trial, administrative hearing, appellate, or workers’ compensation experience preferred. Additional Benefits:
