As a Recreation Specialist I, you will oversee the three amusement rides available at Kennedy Park. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe, fun environment, interacting with patrons as a representative of H.A.R.D., operating the rides, and performing daily inspections. The ideal candidate works well independently with minimal supervision, is comfortable interacting with the public, and values good customer service. Position Details

Available Positions: 2 Hourly Rate: $18.63/hour - $25.14/hour Work Location: Kennedy Park Schedule: 5-16 hours per week, Saturdays and Sundays, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Part‑Time, Year‑Round, Non‑Exempt Not to exceed 960 hours per fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) Anticipated Start Date: ASAP Definition

Under general supervision, on an hourly seasonal basis, organize and lead youth, teen, or adult recreation activities at a designated recreation area, and perform related work as required. Distinguishing Features

This is the first level of a series of hourly positions whose incumbents lead recreational activities on playgrounds, in workshops, or common rooms of schools and community centers within the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District. Examples of Duties

Open and close the facility, set up equipment for games or other activities, and make necessary preparations for conducting the activities. Plan, under supervision, recreational activities and direct large numbers of youth or teens in sports and games such as tetherball, baseball, races, aquatics, tournaments, and contests; referee organized games. Organize indoor games and teach rules and methods of play. Plan, under supervision, activities for adults and direct these activities, such as volleyball, softball, and basketball. Lay out materials, organize and instruct in handicrafts, conduct shows; may lead or informally instruct in art or creative dramatics, act as chaperone at dances, or read and tell stories. Check facility and equipment to ensure proper condition and correct usage; maintain good public relations by explaining the recreation program, enlist support in planning activities, and keep the bulletin board updated with upcoming events. When attendance warrants, informally supervise and help train Recreation Leaders assigned as assistants; prepare written reports on attendance, activity accidents, and property damage or loss. When assigned as a camp counselor, conduct typical camping activities such as hiking, outdoor cooking, and nature study. May receive assignment to direct a Senior Adults program, helping members become acquainted and setting up facilities. May act as leader for handicapped youth, teens, and adults, assisting them in games, sports, and crafts suited to the group. Minimum Qualification Requirements

Must be 16 years of age or older. Enrolled in high school, or have completed high school/GED, or have completed one year of college or university with specialization in recreation, physical education, group work, or a closely related field. One year of accumulated full‑time or hourly experience as a paid or volunteer recreation leader, or as a participant in varied recreation activities. Some acceptable combination of education and similar experience. Knowledge Of
