Overview

The phlebotomist performs blood collection and specimen processing, supports clerical duties, and helps maintain lab collection turnaround times. They work with patients to collect samples and assist in a lab setting.

Responsibilities

• Practice positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions.
• Practice kindness and courtesy with all patients and co-workers, and maintain good communication within the department and throughout the hospital.
• Follow proper isolation and hand sanitation procedures.
• Follow blood collection procedures, perform venous and capillary punctures on all age groups, and use appropriate collection techniques to meet quality and quantity requirements.
• Perform Blood Bank collections in accordance with written collection and Blood Bank procedures, demonstrating accuracy and legibility, and adhering to specimen requirements.
• Maintain order and cleanliness of phlebotomy trays, stations, and storage areas.
• Maintain laboratory turnaround time by prioritizing work and organizing draw requests to meet efficiency targets.
• Assist with phlebotomy training under the direction of the supervisor or coordinator.
• Specimen processing and distribution to testing areas of the laboratory.
• Use good judgment in problem solving and request help when needed.
• Support department workflow and teamwork to maintain efficiency and a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• No experience is necessary; training provided in phlebotomy methods.
• High school diploma or GED.
• BLS through American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
• Excellent customer service and time management skills.
• Phlebotomy Certificate and/or 3 months phlebotomy experience is preferred.

$16.06 - $22.69 /hour
