Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is currently searching for a
Director of Finance
to join the Accounting and Finance team. This position ensures the cooperative’s financial health and compliance with applicable regulations.
This position may be based in either our Cedar Rapids or Des Moines office, depending on candidate preference, with occasional travel between offices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement financial strategies to ensure the cooperative’s long-term sustainability and financial strength.
Advise the CFO and executive leadership on financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
Establish and monitor financial policies, internal controls, and regulatory reporting compliance.
Develop procedures for budgeting, forecasting, reporting, cash flow and credit management.
Manage lending activities and investment decisions.
Conduct strategic financial analysis of contracts, agreements, regulatory requirements, and business risks; present recommendations.
Direct financial risk management, including commodities hedging and counterpart credit
Manage the cost-of-service model and annual process to determine billing rates.
Lead preparation of financial forecasts, scenario analysis, and tax accruals for CIPCO and subsidiaries.
Support strategic equity decisions, patronage allocations, and credit rating agency coordination.
Partner on strategic projects and cooperative initiatives.
Stay current on industry trends and best practices through professional development.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of 10 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Certified Public Accountant designation (active or inactive) highly preferred
Electric utility industry experience preferred
Strong knowledge of accounting and finance practices
Detail-oriented, accurate, and able to translate financial data into clear business language
Skilled in analysis, problem-solving, and process improvement
Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, economics, financial markets, and banking
Proficient with financial systems, databases, and advanced Excel
Highly organized, ethical, and able to deliver quality work under tight deadlines
