Role Overview
As a Principal Systems Engineer on Boston Scientific’s Neuromodulation R&D team, you will lead the design of implantable and connected cloud & mobile medical device systems from concept through product launch. You will develop system requirements, design architecture, guide hardware, firmware and software implementation, and support system integration using systems engineering principles. Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership to cross‑functional engineering teams. Define and analyze system requirements, clinical workflows and input/output processes using systems engineering methods. Solve systems integration problems with critical thinking and provide recommendations. Use architecture design tools to develop and document system‑level interactions. Create design documentation (requirements rationale, tracing, system change analysis) within the quality system. Prepare regulatory reports and work with internal regulatory teams to satisfy external agency requirements. Apply project management principles to plan, track, execute and report project status. Support system risk management activities (FMEA, hazard analysis). Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. 8+ years of engineering experience (Master’s may substitute for 2 years). 5+ years in mixed HW/SW systems. 3+ years designing, developing and testing embedded systems and/or active implantable medical devices. Strong system requirements and specification interpretation skills. Experience working in a laboratory environment. Preferred Qualifications
Independent, solution‑oriented work style. Experience with formal systems development lifecycle processes. Knowledge of regulations and standards for class II/III medical devices. Familiarity with requirements management/PLM tools. Experience with product concept development, customer interaction, verification of engineering requirements and validation of customer needs/design requirements. Excellent written and verbal communication, judgment, decision‑making, and critical thinking skills. Ability to build relationships across the organization and with external stakeholders. Experience providing technical leadership within cross‑functional teams. Proficiency in agile project management concepts. Benefits & Compensation
