JOB SUMMARY
The Industrial Coatings Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the coatings department, ensuring all surfaces are prepared, coated, and finished to meet company standards and regulatory compliance. This role provides leadership to the coatings technicians and supporting department staff, manages workflow, enforces safety procedures, and drives continuous improvement in efficiency and quality.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Supervision & Leadership
Direct, train, and evaluate coatings technicians and support staff.
Assign tasks and monitor progress to meet production schedules.
Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.
Operations Management
Oversee surface preparation, mixing, application, curing, and inspection of industrial coatings.
Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and industry best practices.
Manage equipment usage, preventive maintenance, and calibration of spray systems and curing ovens.
Monitor material usage and reduce waste through proper handling and storage.
Quality & Compliance
Conduct in-process and final inspections of coated products.
Maintain accurate documentation of coating processes, inspections, and corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other environmental and safety regulations.
Continuous Improvement
Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
Support Lean, Six Sigma, or other operational excellence initiatives.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality departments to resolve issues.

Other Production departments
EXPERIENCE
3–5 years of experience in industrial coatings, paint applications, or surface finishing. (Other production-based experience may be substituted.)
Prior leadership or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school certificate preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS
ASE certification preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of industrial coating types (epoxy, polyurethane, water-based, etc.).
Strong understanding of surface preparation, spray techniques, curing methods, and film thickness testing.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and safety data sheets.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic ERP systems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to pass physical exam
Must be able to pass a Respirator Fitness Exam
Ability to lift a minimum of 70 lbs.
Ability to exert maximum force to pull and carry objects
Must be able to climb into, onto and under vehicle
Must be able to make repeated trips up and down a ladder
Extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting and kneeling
Vision a minimum 20/40 with or without corrective lenses
Good hearing
