Overview
Job Description: This position performs professional accounting work in the business office of Minnesota State College Southeast, spanning two campuses (Winona and Red Wing). The role involves reconciliation of the local bank account, reconciliation of SWIFT to MinnState, financial reporting, business expense reimbursements, backup procurement duties, and serving as a resource to College personnel on financial information and policy/procedure. The position also prepares complex financial statements for Southeast’s Foundation and supports a wide range of financial analyses and compliance with GASB, GAAP, and other applicable standards.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and prepare GASB/FASB financial data in accordance with GAAP for review by the Vice President of Finance and Administration; prepare financial statements for annual reporting under deadlines set by System Office.
- Use PowerBI, SWIFT, ISRS, Workday and local bank systems to reconcile funds monthly and generate reports for multiple funds/appropriations; ensure accuracy and timeliness; investigate issues and propose solutions.
- Review internal controls annually and recommend development or revision of controls as needed.
- Serve as a resource to college administration, faculty, staff, and student senate on business office functions and financial information.
- Analyze and prepare special reports to evaluate budget performance; assist program instructors, coordinators, managers, and administrators with planning; educate the college community on business office forms and policies; respond to inquiries.
- Manage and reconcile Foundation Funds; prepare and present complex financial statements to the Foundation Board; assist in budget development for the Foundation and monitor cash balances across banks and funds; provide recommendations on finance and investment strategies.
- Backup and assist College Purchasing Coordinator to ensure procurement and contracting processes run smoothly; prepare contracts and leases as needed; monitor transactions in accounting systems; support procurement procedures and guidelines training.
- Enter and post SEMA4 Employee Business Expense Reimbursements and review new employee relocation reimbursements; communicate reimbursement policies to the college community.
- Respond to employee questions and inquiries; perform other duties as assigned to ensure department function and reputation as a viable business partner.
- Strengthen internal control processes in accordance with MnSCU and State requirements; participate in committees and projects as directed; engage in ongoing accounting training to stay current with laws and regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum: Five (5) years of experience in a professional-level accounting position; Two (2) years of experience with high-level accounting, data analysis, and attention to detail; thorough knowledge of state and federal policies and regulations relevant to the role.
- Ability to provide accurate, detailed analyses of complex information and to prepare, analyze, and create ad-hoc reports for auditing and reporting requirements.
- Working knowledge of GASB, FASB, and GAAP; high technical proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and database management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to convey accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders; ability to communicate clearly and tactfully.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; or Associate Degree with five (5) years of relevant experience; knowledge of MnSCU and State policies; working knowledge of POWERBI, SWIFT, and ISRS.
Work Shift
Monday–Friday (7:30am–4:00pm or 8:00am–4:30pm).
