JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager oversees daily and monthly accounting activities at the Kentucky Lottery Corporation (KLC). This role involves analyzing process gaps, managing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, overseeing accounting activities, preparing financial statements, and ensuring adherence to internal controls and compliance with accounting standards. Serves as the subject matter expert for all financial system modules, workflows, and configurations. Ensures accurate and timely general ledger and period end closings. Manages Finance and Accounting team providing leadership and guidance to meet departmental goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes process gaps, establishes best practices for business processes and transactions, and facilitates process changes. Identifies and strives for continued process improvement.
  • Manages the KLC’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) business management software including coordinating with IT and system users on regular updates, training users on the system, and leading system enhancements. Participates in corporate projects and working groups or committees. Oversees transaction testing as part of quality assurance project testing.
  • Oversees daily and monthly accounting activities to maintain the general ledger. Reviews monthly reconciliations and ensures timely completion. Advises on and implements complex accounting tasks.
  • Assists with developing policies and procedures and maintains adherence to internal controls and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
  • Prepares monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Assists in managing the KLC’s annual financial audit, including preparation of audited financial statements, supporting footnotes, and management discussion and analysis (MD&A).
  • Provides support to other departments in financial analysis of various company initiatives, including promotions and material expenditures.
  • Manages the annual fiscal budget. Monitors approved annual fiscal budget, tracks results, and investigates and analyzes variances from budgeted targets.
  • Manages direct reports to support the development and execution of departmental goals. Mentors and develops staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis. Establishes and monitors staff performance and development goals, assigns accountabilities, sets objectives, establishes priorities, and conducts annual performance appraisals.
  • Provides oversight of payroll processes to ensure timely and accurate pay. Ensures compliance with government regulations related to payroll and tax filings.
  • Provides financial and accounting support on additional projects as directed by VP, Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related field required. Master’s degree a plus.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in accounting or similar field required.
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in a managerial position including effective performance management, coaching, and counseling preferred. Individuals who have exhibited solid leadership and team building skills may also be considered.
  • Experience serving as a business analyst, making recommendations for improvement to company business processes.
  • Proficient in working with ERP systems; Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations a plus.
  • Proven experience working in collaborative, cross-functional teams across multiple departments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management staff, peers, and employees.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent computer skills required with advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to exhibit the KLC’s core values.

  • Office environment – hybrid in accordance with KLC policies.
  • Travel – Minimal.

Salary Range: $85,103 - $106,431 (Midpoint). Our goal is to pay a competitive market salary for new employees, which is typically up to the midpoint of our pay ranges. However, final offers for all positions will be based on several factors such as experience level, education, skills and internal pay equity.
