Shift: Monday - Friday (8am to 4:30pm)

This position is eligible for a $1,500 sign-on bonus, per qualifications.

Job Summary: The Medical Assistant GI assists providers with patient examinations, diagnostic procedures, treatments and care coordination for the purpose of facilitating effective delivery of patient care and patient satisfaction. This role is responsible for direct provision of ancillary services or advanced, specialized knowledge or experience integral to their job function.

Minimum Education: High School diploma or GED

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates Certification.

Work Experience: Minimum of 1 year. New graduate Medical Assistants or those with 1 year of recent related experience, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong understanding of healthcare delivery processes in the medical office. Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and other applicable software. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal that present clear and concise information. Ability to stay organized while managing multiple tasks.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Maintains exemplary patient satisfaction by greeting patients warmly, demonstrating sensitivity to their needs and conditions, and actively contributing as an engaged team member. Assesses and documents the patient's general condition including chief complaint, vital signs, weight, medications, and social history while verifying symptoms and interventions, and accurately records services and diagnoses for completion of encounter forms, requisitions, consent forms, and advance beneficiary notices. Assists provider with patient examinations, procedures and treatments according to established protocols. Independently performs ancillary services including venipuncture's, x-rays, etc. per protocols. Maintains medical records, including chart preparation, filing of correspondence, and test results, while assisting in care coordination by managing patient calls, scheduling appointments, processing prescription refills, and related tasks in accordance with established protocols. Successfully uses the electronic medical record and other computer applications to accomplish tasks according to policies and procedures. Tracks ordered or pending tests, procedures and referrals according to protocol. Administers medication orally and via intra-muscular injection as directed by physician order. Determines eligibility and obtains authorization for services. Schedules tests and appointments for referred services. Tracks referrals for services, promotes patient wellness through provider-directed education, and leverages advanced clinical knowledge to resolve patient questions and address care needs. Participates in quality initiatives and safety functions. Assists in identifying and ordering needed supplies. Remains informed and compliant with current Health System, Warren Clinic, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) policies and procedures.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.

Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
