The
Senior Director of Biopharma Business Development
will lead strategic partnerships and commercial collaborations with biopharmaceutical companies. This role is critical to expanding the company’s footprint in companion diagnostics (CDx), clinical trial testing, and translational research services. You will be responsible for identifying and executing high-value partnerships that align with our cancer diagnostics portfolio and strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Business Development Strategy
Develop and execute a comprehensive business development plan focused on biopharma partnerships in oncology diagnostics, including CDx, biomarker discovery, and clinical trial support.
Identify new opportunities with pharmaceutical and biotech partners. Build and manage a strong pipeline of potential collaborations and licensing deals.
Manage Partner Relationships
Serve as the primary point of contact for biopharma partners. Build long‑term strategic relationships with R&D, clinical development, and commercial leaders within partner organizations.
Drive Deal Execution
Lead negotiations for strategic collaborations, including research agreements, licensing deals, and service contracts. Work closely with legal, finance, and scientific teams to structure, draft, and finalize agreements.
Cross‑Functional Leadership
Collaborate internally with R&D, regulatory, clinical, product, and commercial teams to align business development strategies with corporate objectives and operational capabilities.
Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies to inform strategic decision‑making and identify whitespace opportunities.
Represent the Company
Attend key industry meetings, conferences, and partnering events to represent the company, network with potential partners, and showcase capabilities.
Qualifications
Education
PhD, PharmD, or Master’s in Life Sciences preferred; MBA a plus.
Experience
10+ years of experience in business development, alliance management, or corporate development in the biotech or diagnostics industry.
Proven track record of closing biopharma deals, preferably in oncology or molecular diagnostics.
Deep understanding of cancer diagnostics, CDx development, and the biopharma drug development lifecycle.
Experience with clinical trial partnerships and/or laboratory services is a strong plus.
Exceptional strategic thinking, negotiation, and communication skills.
Strong analytical and financial acumen.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative, and mission‑driven environment.
Comfortable engaging with senior executives, scientific leaders, and external stakeholders.
Location This position is based in San Diego, CA. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate.
A flexible hybrid schedule is available, but regular on‑site presence is expected for internal collaboration and partner meetings.
