Lenovo’s legal department is looking for a talented, highly motivated, and dynamic Patent Portfolio Manager to manage the Lenovo Mobile Business Group’s (MBG) patent portfolio.
Responsibilities
Manage a global patent portfolio for the MBG business, including harvesting and identifying patentable innovations; support patentability evaluation in the Patent Review Board for determining beneficial patents to be filed.
Manage outside counsel to draft and file patent applications, including prosecution, reexamination, invalidation, and other patent‑related professional work throughout the lifecycle.
Manage annuity payments for the MBG portfolio within budget.
Provide inventor training and education.
Support, as appropriate, patent licensing opportunities, litigation, and complex business transactions with patent portfolio analysis, due diligence, infringement and invalidity analysis, and claim charting and testing.
Manage relationships and communications with outside counsel and vendors.
Communicate effectively with business clients on patent filing plans, IP strategy, and IP awareness and education.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in science and technology, preferably majoring in Electronics, Computer, or Communication.
8+ years’ experience in‑house or law firm with strong patent portfolio strategy and development experience.
USPTO Patent Bar required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing a global patent portfolio, preferably in the patent department of a global technology company or an international patent law firm, including brainstorming, harvesting, filing, prosecution, and pruning.
In-depth understanding of US patent law, filing and prosecution strategies, and preferable knowledge of global patent laws including EPO, WIPO, and CN.
Deep knowledge of rules and practices in patenting software worldwide, preferable knowledge of patenting AI.
Strong technical skills to partner with business leadership and Patent Review Boards to support Mobile and AI technology.
Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal; additional language skills preferred (Mandarin, Japanese).
Strong organizational and operational skills.
Personable collaborator who can work successfully and build relationships with internal stakeholders and external parties to achieve business goals.
Strategic thinker with a broad perspective, and an analytical thinker with enough creativity to synthesize new solutions to old challenges.
The base salary budgeted range for this position is $160–180K USD. Individuals may also be considered for bonus and/or commission.
