Director of Nursing Operations, Critical Care leads a nursing division at Cook County Health, ensuring care delivery aligns with mission, vision, values, and quality standards. General Administrative Responsibilities

Review collective bargaining agreements and consult with Labor Relations to generate management proposals. Participate in collective bargaining negotiations, caucus discussions, and working meetings. Document, recommend, and effectuate discipline at all levels in accordance with CCH system rules. Direct and effectuate CCH management policies and practices. Contribute to staff management, policy development, and independent judgment for staffing issues. Hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, direct, or discipline employees following collective bargaining agreements. Work with Labor Relations to discern past practice when necessary. Typical Duties

Establish performance goals and objectives for the nursing division. Monitor and evaluate the overall nursing care delivery system for integrity, efficiency, safety, and quality. Assess patient care needs and ensure care meets Standards of Care and Practice criteria for the designated specialty. Ensure nursing personnel provide optimal customer service and an exceptional patient experience. Collect, review, and analyze patient acuity and staffing data to determine staffing patterns and project staffing needs. Develop division‑specific quality and safety initiatives and implement corrective actions. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Performance Improvement Program. Establish and review individual performance goals for unit Nursing Coordinators. Recruit and train qualified clinical staff and maintain continuous education and licensure updates. Plan and budget for the nursing division to ensure labor costs remain within established guidelines. Promote patient rights, train staff on patient rights awareness, and act as a patient advocate. Prepare and submit divisional performance reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Participate in nursing, medical, and ancillary committees to align the nursing division with patient care system goals. Perform other related duties as required. Reporting Relationship

Reports to the Chief Nursing Officer. Minimum Qualifications

Licensed Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois or must obtain licensure prior to employment. Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or Business Administration from an accredited institution. Five years of nursing management experience with large responsibility within the nursing clinical area assigned to Critical Care. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Preferred Qualifications

Certified in area of specialty. Nurse Executive‑Board Certified (NE‑BC). Management experience in a unionized environment. Prior inpatient, medical‑surgical, telemetry, or ICU unit managerial experience. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

Thorough knowledge of Critical Care principles, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of HIPAA to protect patient information confidentiality and security. Diverse clinical practice knowledge, including: • Interventional Radiology nursing procedures and safety. • Management of spinal cord injury and neurological diagnoses. • Stroke care and management. • Chemotherapy patient management. • Wound Vacuum Assisted Closure (V.A.C.) management. • Chest tube management. • Ventilated life support management. • Burn patient management. • Cardiovascular disease patient management. • Level 1 trauma center experience. • ICU monitor and equipment expertise. • Pain management and sedation administration experience. Demonstrated leadership skills in a fast‑paced environment within established time constraints and difficult situations. Planning, organizing, staffing, delegating, coordinating, budgeting, evaluating, and supervising skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and patients from diverse cultures and age groups. Excellent interpersonal and patient relation skills. Good personal computer skills. Role model for clinical excellence. Supervise, direct, and review activities of nursing personnel. Create and maintain complete and accurate records and reports. 24/7 oversight responsibility required. Physical and Environmental Demands
