Technical Hardware Sourcer – Consumer Products
OpenAI is seeking an experienced Technical Sourcer to help build consumer product hardware and embedded software teams across San Francisco.
You’ll be responsible for
Leading targeted sourcing strategies to identify and engage talent across the consumer product hiring slate.
Building a pipeline of passive candidates through outreach, market mapping, research, and community/network development.
Partnering closely with hiring managers, product designers, and engineering leads to understand role requirements and product milestones.
Creating focused search strategies for specialized roles such as SoC/PMIC, RF, power management, firmware, DFM, and manufacturing positions.
Leveraging advanced sourcing techniques and tools to surface exceptional candidates.
Representing OpenAI at industry events, hardware meetups, and conferences.
Ensuring a high‑quality candidate experience and maintaining accurate candidate data and metrics in the ATS.
We’re seeking
5+ years of technical sourcing experience focused on consumer hardware, embedded software/firmware, or adjacent product engineering roles.
Proven success sourcing for consumer‑product engineering roles such as embedded firmware, BSP/board bring‑up, electrical/analog designers, PCB/layout, mechanical engineers, industrial designers, DFM/manufacturing, and test & validation.
Strong understanding of the consumer product development lifecycle and hiring needs across phases.
Ability to translate complex technical requirements into effective sourcing signals and evaluation criteria.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Proficiency with sourcing tools and platforms (LinkedIn Recruiter, ATS, GitHub, patent tools, Boolean/semantic search).
Metrics‑driven mindset and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑moving environment.
Nice‑to‑haves
Hands‑on familiarity with prototyping workflows, supply‑chain/geographical hiring considerations, or regulatory compliance signals.
Experience recruiting for global manufacturing and supply‑chain roles.
Technical degree or relevant hands‑on experience in hardware or embedded systems.
Workplace & Location This role is based in our San Francisco Jackson Square office. Remote work is not available at this time. Relocation support is offered. Hybrid work model: four days in office with an option to work remotely on Wednesdays.
