Job Summary The Department of Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering (CEAE) at CU Boulder welcomes applications for the Senior HR Generalist & Faculty Specialist. This position plays an integral role in providing human resources support for all employee groups within the unit, overseeing recruitment, faculty promotion and tenure, performance evaluation, payroll, and all other employee support functions for the department. The role works closely with the CEAE department Chair on operational planning and collaborates with College and Campus HR to develop, recommend improvements, and implement HR processes for CEAE.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be HR Generalist

Manages the administrative processes for hiring department personnel, including hourly student employees, contract graduate students, temporary employees, research faculty, and permanent classified and university staff.

Works with Hiring Managers to create and review position descriptions and ensures that permanent staff positions are reviewed every three years for accuracy.

Recruits for new positions with campus offices such as Research Faculty HR and CU Talent Acquisition.

Communicates with search committees, reviews applications, schedules interviews, and prepares offer letters.

Manages student fellowships such as the Dissertation Completion Fellowship and processes related Graduate Awarding Forms.

Supports the employee lifecycle from recruitment through offboarding and the exit process.

Provides onboarding support, confirms training and performance management plans for non‑student hires.

Maintains all personnel transactions in the HR Service Center.

Assesses and manages the visa application process for international employees and visitors.

Coordinates with CEAS Human Resources for policy updates and employee networking opportunities.

Serves as the first point of contact for payroll inquiries and collaborates with the department finance team.

Faculty Specialist

Manages the administrative processes for hiring tenure‑track, tenured, teaching faculty, research professors, and temporary faculty such as Lecturers and Adjoints.

Collaborates with Department Chair and finance staff to allocate headcount for faculty recruitment.

Drafts and advertises position descriptions in accordance with College and Campus guidelines.

Assists search committees with scheduling interviews and dispositioning candidates.

Prepares offer letters and memorandums of understanding for new hires.

Initiates and manages visa sponsorship processes in partnership with International Student & Scholar Services.

Provides onboarding support for new hires and maintains faculty personnel files and documentation.

Oversees faculty merit evaluation and ensures reviews are completed by campus deadlines.

What We Require

Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in human resources, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

What We Would Like You To Have

Master's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.

Previous payroll or administrative experience.

Human resources experience in a higher education setting.

Knowledge of the HR policies and procedures of the University of Colorado, or another university part of the Association of American Universities.

Experience using a human resources information system, preferably HCM.

Experience working with faculty or faculty processes.

Familiarity with the university’s student information and course scheduling systems.

Sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural, political, and geographical differences, with the ability to work well with faculty, staff, and students from around the world.
