The Opportunity As a Senior Structural – Transmission Line Engineer you will:
Support design engineering and analysis on transmission scopes.
Support large, extensive 345kV+ rebuild and greenfield projects, including trending technologies like HVDC and 765kV.
Collect and assimilate data for engineering work; perform research and prepare calculations in accordance with Black & Veatch and industry standards.
Develop recommendations for equipment and materials while maintaining budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
Assist with guidance to engineering team members and maintain positive client relations.
May assist with business development activities and serve as a technical specialist or in a lead role.
Apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses for complex problems with minimal supervision.
Expand knowledge and skill set in the area of discipline.
Key Responsibilities
Provide guidance on department design guides, standards, systems, and B&V policies.
Ensure compliance with B&V quality program and support continuous improvement, change management, and risk management.
Prepare complex engineering deliverables, perform research, and develop recommendations for equipment and material selection.
Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements; review lower level engineering work.
Coordinate with internal/external team members on complex projects and define project schedules for single or multiple disciplines.
Identify key client interests and communicate them to the project team.
Support business development or pursuit activities and serve as a technical specialist in a broad or narrow area of specialization.
Mentor lower level and mid level professionals, identify successors, and support workforce planning.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong experience in 69kV to 500kV overhead transmission line design and expertise in Power Line system based programs (e.g., PLS, PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE).
Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards.
Client interaction experience with solid relationship‑building abilities in pursuit of business opportunities.
Experience with the design of utility‑scale electrical transmission systems.
Structural design of transmission steel structures and their foundations.
Basic structural steel and concrete experience using 3D analysis and design software.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
Completion of pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search).
Work Environment / Physical Demands Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance, and work assignments.
