Overview This classification protects life and property, deters criminal activity, and enforces all local, state, and federal laws, statutes, and regulations. Patrols and monitors city parks and facilities to enforce park rules, provide security, and performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties
Provide exemplary customer service to all individuals by demonstrating a willingness to be attentive, understanding, responsive, fair, courteous, and respectful, and actively participate in maintaining a positive customer service environment.
Drive a vehicle to various city parks, facilities, and other assigned locations and perform visual surveillance to insure proper use of parks and facilities.
Develop programs to ensure public safety in parks including community education, interpretation, enforcement, coordination, and inspection.
Provide a deterrent to unacceptable behavior by maintaining high visibility at city parks and facilities.
Perform a variety of park security duties in the management of park resources and public safety.
Patrol parks and facilities by foot and vehicle to protect property and enforce municipal codes, administrative policy, and regulations.
Issue warnings and citations for violations of municipal and administrative policy and regulations.
May council, advise, or detain individuals whose actions endanger person or property.
Act as a liaison to the South Fulton Police Department; attend meetings, coordinate assistance, backup, and information related to park and code enforcement issues.
Assist local law enforcement emergency services officials.
Educate the public and diffuse difficult situations.
Maintain accurate records and write reports.
Supervise and schedule the work of temporary staff assigned as Assistant Park Rangers.
Provide assistance to park patrons.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and Basic Law Enforcement certification.
Must possess and maintain Basic Law Enforcement certification.
Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving history.
Must successfully pass the minimum Physical Fitness/Agility standards and testing for running, sit-ups, and push-ups.
At least twenty (20) years of age and be a citizen of the United States.
Physical Ability Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds) may be required. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals, and to communicate orally.
