Overview Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for a full‑time Group Teacher in the United Community Centers Division for the Early Learning Center Program. The group teacher is responsible for leading the learning environment based on the Creative Curriculum approach that helps children develop physically, emotionally, socially, cognitively, and creatively. They comply with procedural norms, standards of attendance, and daycare regulations, and work under the Director of Early Learning Center to create a warm, welcoming environment.

Responsibilities

Ensure a learning environment based on the Creative Curriculum approach that helps the children develop physically, emotionally, socially, cognitively, and creatively.

Lead the implementation of activities that promote social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative development of children.

Adhere to all Head Start Performance standards and Agency mandates of the United Community Day Care center.

Prepare teacher assistants to assume responsibility for classroom operations in the teacher’s absence, thereby holding the teacher aide and substitute accountable.

Share job‑related knowledge with team members to promote and support their professional growth.

Participate in regularly scheduled staff and team meetings, classroom development workshops, and training conducted by UCDCC, ACS, and other funders.

Perform center‑related services such as parent/teacher conferences, transition meetings, and end‑of‑year celebrations.

Share information with parents via daily contact and formal/informal interfacing, newsletters, etc.

Encourage parents in their role as primary teachers by acting as a resource person, actively listening, and offering suggestions.

Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents/families through open communication, visits, training, and other developmental activities.

Elicit input from teacher assistants for written observations, progress reports, and other documentation of children’s progress.

Utilize observations, conferences, and tracking data to design developmentally appropriate and individualized lesson plans.

Adhere to Agency policies and procedures; seek guidance from the Educational Director as needed.

Strictly enforce the Agency policy regarding confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.

Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the above.

Requirements

Meet the Agency’s requirements for NYC Department of Education.

Hold a BA or Master’s in Early Childhood Education or a related field.

Have an initial or permanent B‑2 or N‑6 NYS teaching certification (or equivalent).

Have daily reliable transportation to Brooklyn, NY.

Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.

Additional Qualifications for Non‑Traditional Degrees

Child Psychology with at least 12 credits specific to early childhood.

Child Development with at least 12 credits specific to early childhood.

Elementary Education.

N‑6 Elementary Education.

Special Education (B‑2 or 1‑6).

General Education with at least 12 credits specific to early childhood.

For fully certified teachers: NYS certifications in Nursery–6th Grade, Early Childhood (Birth–2nd Grade), Childhood Education (Grades 1‑6), Special Education‑N‑12th Grade, Students with Disabilities Birth–2nd Grade, or Students with Disabilities 1st‑6th Grade.

Nice to Haves

Bilingual Spanish.

2‑5 years of experience working with children ages 2‑5 in a classroom setting.

Clear DOE fingerprinting and background authorizations.

Proactive leadership, initiative, positive problem‑solving, decision‑making, and teamwork skills.

Open‑minded, flexible, and creative.
