We’re looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Taxonomist to join our Media & Entertainment data team. This role is critical in organizing, standardizing, and enriching metadata related to titles, episodes, and associated financial data. You’ll serve as a bridge between business teams and IT, helping to clean, link, and transform media data into structured taxonomies and meaningful stories.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain taxonomies and metadata standards for content (titles, seasons, episodes, genres, licensing, etc.).
Clean and normalize content and financial metadata across multiple internal systems (e.g., CMS, finance, rights management).
Identify and resolve data inconsistencies, gaps, or duplications in media catalogs.
Work with IT teams to align metadata models and ensure smooth data integration across platforms.
Build reports and dashboards that tell stories about content performance, product relationships, and market insights.
Partner with business teams (finance, content ops, marketing) to ensure metadata supports reporting and discovery.
Document taxonomy guidelines, naming conventions, and classification logic.
Contribute to data governance and metadata quality initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in taxonomy, metadata management, or information architecture, ideally in media or publishing.
Strong understanding of media metadata (e.g., titles, episodes, contributors, formats, licensing terms).
Proficient in metadata cleanup, normalization, and linking across complex datasets.
Experience using BI tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker to build data visualizations and reports.
Familiarity with data cataloging, MDM, or metadata management tools.
Able to work cross-functionally with IT, content, and business stakeholders.
Excellent analytical thinking, communication, and attention to detail.
Preferred
Experience with digital media platforms (streaming, broadcast, OTT).
Understanding of financial metadata related to content (e.g., revenue, cost per title, licensing).
Familiarity with controlled vocabularies and standards (e.g., EIDR, schema.org, Dublin Core).
Pay Range: $65/hr – $70/hr
Compensation will be determined by scope, complexity, location, skills, and market conditions. Our full-time consultants have access to benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) contributions.
