Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team.
This role will support the firm’s general accounting functions while placing special emphasis on project accounting. The Staff Accountant will work closely with project managers, engineers, and leadership to ensure accurate financial tracking of projects, timely billing, and compliance with accounting standards.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities General Accounting
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
Reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
Support preparation of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
Maintain compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Project Accounting
Set up and maintain project cost codes in the accounting system.
Track project revenues, costs, labor hours, and budgets against forecasts.
Review project contracts and ensure compliance with billing terms.
Prepare and process progress billings, time & expense invoices, and retainage releases.
Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and provide variance analysis.
Collaborate with project managers to resolve billing, reporting, and budget discrepancies.
Other Duties
Assist with external audits and tax preparation as needed.
Support payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable as required.
Contribute to process improvements in accounting and project reporting.
Education, Certification And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
1–3 years of accounting experience (engineering, construction, or professional services preferred).
Strong understanding of GAAP and project-based accounting principles.
Proficiency with accounting/project management software (Deltek Vision, Ajera, BST, or similar preferred).
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and organizational skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with project teams.
Physical Requirements
