Overview We are working on behalf of a well-established and respected UK-based environmental consultancy, specialising in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental services. With an expanding project portfolio across residential, infrastructure, renewable energy, and commercial sectors, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Associate or Principal Engineer to lead operations in their Bath office.
This is a strategic, senior‑level appointment, offering a unique opportunity for a technically capable and commercially astute professional to play a key role in shaping the business across the South West region.
The Role You will lead and manage a wide range of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental projects from inception through to completion. In addition to technical delivery, you will be responsible for business development, team management, and contributing to the overall growth and success of the organisation’s operations in the region.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the delivery of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental projects to a high technical and commercial standard
Provide specialist input on ground investigations, foundation design, earthworks, slope stability, mining risk, and ground improvement
Conduct contaminated land assessments in line with current UK legislation
Interpret site investigation results and produce high‑quality technical reports
Manage budgets, resources, and project timelines effectively
Build and maintain client relationships; identify and secure new opportunities
Mentor and lead a multidisciplinary team, supporting professional development and technical excellence
Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, best practices, and industry standards
Represent the business at client meetings, industry events, and within professional networks
About You
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in geotechnical or geoenvironmental consultancy
Degree qualified in Geology, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related field
Chartered status (CEng, CGeol, or equivalent)
In‑depth knowledge of geotechnical design and contaminated land assessment
Proven experience in project delivery, business development, and client management
Strong understanding of the South West market, including regional opportunities and challenges
Skilled communicator with strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites and client meetings
Experience working on renewable energy or large‑scale infrastructure projects
Proficiency in site investigation and geotechnical design software (e.g., HoleBASE, gINT)
Confident in presenting complex technical findings to clients and stakeholders
