Upstream Scientist, Process Development
to support the development, optimization, and scale-up of cell culture processes for biologics manufacturing with a pharmaceutical company near
Frederick, MD .
Responsibilities
Design, execute, and analyze experiments to develop robust upstream processes for recombinant protein and biologics production.
Optimize cell culture conditions including media, feed strategies, and bioreactor parameters to maximize yield and product quality.
Support scale-up and tech transfer of upstream processes from bench to pilot and GMP manufacturing.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Downstream Development, Analytical Development, MS&T, and Quality.
Author and review technical documentation including development reports, protocols, and risk assessments.
Troubleshoot upstream process issues and provide technical support to manufacturing operations.
Ensure compliance with cGMP, FDA, EMA, and other global regulatory standards.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in upstream process development or related biopharmaceutical roles.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Cell Biology, or related field.
Hands‑on experience with mammalian cell culture in large‑scale bioreactors (AMBR, 3L).
Strong understanding of cell metabolism, bioprocess engineering, and regulatory requirements.
Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab, Excel).
Compensation
Salary range: approximately $40.00 – $55.00 hourly, commensurate with experience.
