Temp Parttime Faculty - Physical & Life Sciences UNM Department of Mathematics and Science invites applicants to apply for a Temporary Part‑Time Physical and Life Sciences Faculty (Adjunct) member to teach one of the following subject areas for Academic Year 2026‑2027. This posting is primarily for face‑to‑face instruction and potentially some remote delivery of courses.

These positions will be hired on an as needed basis dependent on student enrollment, course offering matrix and graduation requirements. The specific courses include, but are not limited to, the following:

Chemistry 1120C

– Coverage of qualitative and quantitative areas of non‑organic general chemistry for non‑science majors and some health professions. Students will learn and apply principles pertaining to atomic and molecular structure, the periodic table, acids and bases, mass relationships and solutions. The laboratory component introduces students to techniques for obtaining and analyzing experimental observations.

Chemistry 1215

– Introduction to General Chemistry for students in science, engineering and preprofessional programs. Fundamental concepts include mole, concentration, heat, atomic and molecular structure, periodicity, bonding, physical states, stoichiometry and reactions.

Chemistry 1215L

– General Chemistry I Laboratory for Science Majors. First semester laboratory course complementing theory. Laboratory component introduces techniques for obtaining and analyzing experimental observations.

Chemistry 1225

– Continuation of general chemistry principles for students in science, engineering and preprofessional programs. Topics include solutions and their properties, kinetics, chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, entropy and free energy, electrochemistry and nuclear chemistry. Additional topics may include organic, polymer, atmospheric and biochemistry.

Chemistry 1225L

– General Chemistry II Laboratory for Science Majors. Second semester laboratory course complementing Theory. Laboratory component introduces techniques for obtaining and analyzing experimental observations.

Geology 1110

– Physical Geology introductory course. Students learn about mountain formation, volcanoes, earthquakes, water, wind and ice shaping the landscape and human impact on natural resources and climate change.

Geology 1110L

– Physical Geology Lab. Laboratory component of Physical Geology. Students identify rocks and minerals, work with maps and apply stratigraphic principles.

ENVS 1130 – The Blue Planet

– Course weaves understanding of Earth's lithosphere, atmosphere and oceans and how ecosystems are linked to the physical environment. Concurrent enrollment in 1130L optional.

ENVS 1130L – The Blue Planet Laboratory

– Laboratory course. Students collect data, discuss observations and write answers in their own words on worksheets.

Adjunct faculty may be eligible to receive UNM benefits in some cases.

Base salary per credit hour is $1,135.26 – $1,227.89 depending on qualifications. This posting is for both face‑to‑face and remote delivery of courses.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in the discipline or subfield in which you are applying to teach. Applicant must have completed a program of study in the discipline or subfield with coursework at least one level above that of the courses being taught or a tested experience equivalent to the degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful teaching experience in a post‑secondary institution, particularly a community college.

Demonstrated experience in remote delivery of instruction.

Demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
