Compensation: $100,000 – $110,000 annually (DOE)

NOW CFO is partnering with Redwood Community Action Agency (RCAA) to identify an experienced and mission-driven Accounting Manager to join their team in Eureka, CA. This is a hands-on leadership role supporting a long-standing nonprofit organization that provides essential community services throughout Humboldt County. Founded in 1980, RCAA empowers individuals and families through programs that address housing, energy, youth services, food security, and environmental stewardship. The Accounting Manager will play a critical part in maintaining the agency’s financial health and compliance while supporting meaningful, community-impacting work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations and supervise accounting staff.
  • Maintain the general ledger (GL) and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare board presentations and provide financial updates to leadership.
  • Lead job costing and grant tracking processes, ensuring funding compliance.
  • Oversee audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP, grant, and federal/state financial compliance standards.
  • Support budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Uphold internal controls, compliance policies, and reporting accuracy across departments.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Nonprofit or construction industry accounting experience.
  • Experience leading or supporting audit preparation.
  • Strong background in grant accounting and job costing.
  • Proficiency with MIP (Abila) or comparable ERP/accounting software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (B.A./B.S.).
  • Supervisory experience managing fiscal or accounting staff.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Working knowledge of GAAP and Single Audit standards.
  • Experience preparing financial presentations for executive teams or boards.
  • Strong understanding of fund accounting and cost allocation principles.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit operations, community programs, and government grant reporting.
