Position Title: Accounting Manager

Location: Washington, D.C. (Onsite – 5 days per week for the first 6 months, hybrid 4 days thereafter)

Assignment Type: Direct Hire

Compensation: $90-100K

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (35-hour work week, additional hours as needed)

Benefits: This position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k).

Addison Group is partnering with a leading nonprofit institution in Washington, D.C., to identify an Accounting Manager. This individual will oversee core accounting operations, ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory reporting, and provide leadership within a collaborative finance team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and experienced managing accounting functions in a nonprofit or education environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily, weekly, and monthly financial reconciliations and analyses.
  • Review and prepare journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules for month-end close.
  • Oversee accounting functions related to accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, debt, and regulatory filings.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors and manage audit preparation activities.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, disclosures, and reports for management and external agencies.
  • Develop strong working relationships with stakeholders to support financial transparency and accountability.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and control within accounting operations.
  • Stay current with new accounting standards and assist in adoption and implementation where applicable.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small accounting team while serving as a hands-on contributor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in accounting or finance.
  • Prior experience in a nonprofit or education organization required.
  • Proficiency with large ERP systems such as PeopleSoft or Oracle highly preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with familiarity in GAAP compliance and financial statement preparation.
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills with high attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Self-directed, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style.
