Major Duties and Responsibilities

The Cybersecurity Engineer III shall provide support services to the customer base within the Sensing and Information Operations (SIO) Integrated Product Team (IPT), NIWC Atlantic Expeditionary Warfare Department.

  • Test all system configuration against DoD requirements using SCAP utilities, Nessus, and ACAS Risk Management Framework.
  • Provide cyber security support and advisement aided by DoD testing tools, DoD and federal guidance, and NIST SP 800-53 controls to assist in securing the information system without affecting mission completion.
  • Maintain software baselines and monitor, assess, and scan for system vulnerabilities. Maintenance efforts include installing vendor patches, applying security updates, configuring system in accordance with cyber security guidance, installing new software, integrating new hardware, troubleshooting/debugging problem reports, and responding to requested changes to the baseline.
  • Provide detailed installation and update procedures, documenting the processes followed to enable system Assessment and Authorization (A&A) and ease of future system updates.
  • Support programs in providing patches for security releases in accordance with the Authority to Operate (ATO) for the programs fielded baselines.

Clearance

Must have an active TS/SCI eligible clearance.

Required Skills

  • IAT Level II, per DoD 8570.1M (DoDM 8140.03)
  • Must demonstrate strong technical acumen.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project)
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently as well as part of an Integrated Product Team.
  • Ability to multitask and produce quality products.

Required Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering, or Mathematics with a concentration in computer science or equivalent AND 10 years of experience.
  • IAT Level II, per DoD 8570.1M.
  • Experience preparing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with cybersecurity policy, to include Assessment and Authorization requirements.
  • Experience planning, implementing, upgrading, and/or monitoring cybersecurity measures to improve cyber defense and maintain a cyber-resilient network.
  • Assessing cybersecurity vulnerabilities for risks and propose and implement remediation actions or risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure appropriate security controls are in place that will safeguard digital files and electronic infrastructure; and respond to computer security breaches to re-establish protections and make required reports.
