Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.

2 years of experience Android application development.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.

2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms in either an academic or industry setting.

2 years of experience with performance, large‑scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.

Experience with text rendering, layout engines, or computer graphics (e.g., Skia, HarfBuzz, FreeType, etc.).

Familiarity with Kotlin.

About the Job Google’s software engineers develop next‑generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information. In this role, you will work on the Android Text team, shaping typography engineering from core system fonts to next‑generation font technologies. You’ll collaborate with teams such as Google Fonts and Skia, managing a global‑scale font system while pushing the boundaries of digital typography. The Platforms and Devices team focuses on building innovative experiences across Google’s software platforms and first‑party devices.

Base salary range: $141,000‑$202,000 (US) plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Salary is determined by role, level, and location.

Responsibilities

Write product or system development code.

Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices.

Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.

Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.

Participate in, or lead, design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
