Preventive Medicine
Associate Scientist/Scientist
Preventive Medicine, San Francisco, California, United States, 94199
Overview
Associate Scientist/Scientist role at Preventive Medicine. Hands‑on experimentalist to accelerate next‑generation gene editing programs. Title calibrated to experience (Associate, Scientist, Sr. Scientist). Responsibilities
Plan, perform, and troubleshoot prime and base editing experiments in mammalian cells. Design guides, donors, and constructs; execute cloning, PCR/qPCR, and relevant molecular assays. Maintain and passage cell lines; perform transfection/electroporation; establish or edit stable cell pools or clones. Quantify and characterize editing outcomes; optimize protocols for editing efficiency, specificity, and off‑target assessment. Contribute to lab operations (ordering, inventory, equipment maintenance, EHS compliance). Stretch: single‑cell transcriptomics sample prep/analysis, protein purification/engineering, animal model generation in partnership with in vivo teams. Required Qualifications
BS or higher in a relevant field (experience emphasized). 2+ years industry experience in biotechnology. Demonstrated gene editing experience with next‑generation platforms (prime and/or base editing). Strong molecular biology skills (cloning, PCR/qPCR, gel/amplicon prep). Proficiency in mammalian tissue culture, sterile technique, and basic cell‑based assays. Preferred Qualifications
Depth in single‑cell RNA‑seq sample prep, library construction, and/or data interpretation. Protein purification (chromatography techniques) and/or protein engineering (construct design, stability/activity optimization). Gene editing to generate animal models (design, screening, validation in collaboration with in vivo teams). Previous startup environment experience (fast cycles, evolving priorities, cross‑functional collaboration).
