Engineering Associate – Northern Region Construction Team
Keep Alaska Moving! The State of Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Design, Engineering, and Construction is hiring an Engineering Associate to serve as the on‑site representative on construction projects in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Responsibilities
Serve as the on‑site representative for the Contracting Officer, ensuring construction complies with plans, specifications, policies, and safety standards.
Oversee contractor operations, inspect work, review submittals, and maintain detailed project records, testing, and documentation.
Administer complex construction contracts, manage project budgets, and lead project teams including Engineering Assistants and Technicians.
Coordinate with design staff, other agencies, and stakeholders to resolve issues, secure permits, and keep projects on track.
Mentor and evaluate staff while fostering a safe, collaborative work environment through training and regular oversight.
Qualifications
Eight (8) years of progressively responsible work experience in engineering, land surveying, or architecture, of which at least one year was as an Engineering Assistant 3 with the State of Alaska or equivalent elsewhere.
Valid driver’s license required upon hire.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
Strong problem‑solving, teamwork, and adaptability skills.
ABET‑accredited college or technical school courses in engineering, architecture, land surveying, or a closely related curriculum may substitute for the non‑specific required experience (minimum 3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month). A bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering, architecture, or land surveying from an ABET‑accredited institution may substitute for four years of the non‑specific required experience.
