This individual will work closely with senior equity research professionals to prepare research reports and other products to help investor clients evaluate the clinical and commercial prospects of biotechnology therapies in development for rare and common diseases. PhD or MD and equity research experience strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of biology and finance, work ethic, critical thinking and communication skills. Additionally, we want a candidate who is versatile, creative, a skilled writer, and not afraid to dig into tough topics.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Collect and analyze data related to therapeutics and various diseases, including scientific papers, clinical data, and prescription trends
Draft market research surveys and analyze results
Interview company executives and medical/industry consultants to develop and maintain sources of information in preparation of analyses
Build, update and maintain financial models
Formulate investment recommendations based on fundamental analysis, valuation and risk assessment of individual companies
Write research reports and notes on companies for distribution to the Leerink sales force and institutional clients
Keep current of market news
Answer inquiries from firm personnel and external clients
Support senior equity research professionals by attending events of special interest
Experience and Qualifications Required
Qualified candidates will possess either: PhD in pharmacology, molecular biology, physiology, or some directly relevant medical discipline; or MD, with or without post graduate medical training.
Advanced analytics experience and/or statistics advanced degree
Prior business experience: equity research preferred or at least 2 years of consulting experience at a leading consulting firm; or two years of industry business development experience at a leading pharmaceutical or biotechnology firm
Modeling experience in another financial role or graduate work
Familiarity and knowledge of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries including clinical development, regulatory affairs, business development and commercialization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to search, understand and interpret scientific and medical publications
Strong quantitative, financial modeling, forecasting and Excel skills
General understanding of statistical analysis techniques
