Title: Director of Annual Fund and Membership Purpose of Position: The Director of Annual Fund and Membership reports to the Vice President of Advancement. The Director oversees strategy, operations, and communications for a fundraising program focused on increasing donor participation and membership growth. The Director manages staff, develops multi‑channel campaigns across various platforms, cultivates donor relationships, and analyzes data to track progress toward financial goals and enhanced donor and member engagement. The role also maintains a portfolio of individual donors and prospects with the goal of increasing levels of giving. The Director works collaboratively with the entire Advancement team to support stewardship and cultivation initiatives and programs to promote unrestricted philanthropic support for the museum.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive, year‑round annual giving plan with clear goals for revenue, participation, and donor retention.
Campaign Management: Collaborate with the Marketing team to create, manage, and assess solicitation plans for direct mail, email, social media, online campaigns, and peer‑to‑peer outreach.
Data & Analysis: Establish and track key metrics, analyze giving trends, and use data to inform strategic decisions and evaluate campaign effectiveness.
Donor Relations & Stewardship: Cultivate and steward relationships with current and potential donors and members, manage a portfolio of individuals up to a certain giving level, and identify major gift prospects.
Communications & Messaging: Supervise the creation and execution of all annual fund and membership communications, including appeals, newsletters, acknowledgments, and promotional materials.
Membership Programs: Grow the membership base by converting prospects and visitors into members and upgrading existing members through innovative benefits, events, and customer relationship management.
Event Planning: Plan and execute donor recognition, cultivation, and stewardship events, coordinating logistics and developing communication plans for these events.
Staff Management: Manage, supervise, and mentor staff within the annual fund and membership teams, including performance reviews, training, and staff development.
Budget & Operations: Develop and manage the annual giving budget, oversee vendor relationships for printing, mailings, and digital platforms, and ensure accurate record‑keeping in the CRM system.
Collaboration: Partner with marketing, advancement, and other departments to integrate annual giving with overall fundraising goals and promote membership across institutional platforms.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Proven experience in comprehensive annual giving programs
Expertise in multi‑channel fundraising techniques
Strong data analysis and reporting skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Leadership and staff management experience
