Engineers – Responsibilities
Drive, operate, and maintain firefighting apparatus and equipment in compliance with County Fire Operations Directives, Local, State, and Federal policies, rules, and regulations.
Ensure that all apparatus assigned to the engineer are in safe operating condition.
Respond to fire alarms and emergency calls.
Maintain the fire station and grounds.
Participate in fire prevention activities and suppression training programs.
Periodically perform the duties of a Captain and perform related duties as required.

Conditions of Employment Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform during high stress situations. Must be able to hear in the normal audio range. Must possess the strength and stamina sufficient to lift and carry equipment and individuals up to 200 pounds and be able to wear self‑contained breathing apparatus without jeopardizing safety. Vision must be 20/20. Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
Probationary Period:
26 pay periods before attaining regular status. Advancement contingent upon satisfactory performance and a Work Performance Evaluation with an overall evaluation of "Meets Job Standards" and successful completion of the Engineer Taskbook.

Urban Search and Rescue
Hazardous Materials Technician
Paramedic Requirements All Engineers are required to maintain a valid CA and ICEMA Paramedic license or a CA EMT and ICEMA Certification. Paramedics must maintain current CPR and ACLS certificates; EMTs must maintain current CPR certificates. All Engineers must possess and maintain a valid CA driver’s license and a current DL546 Health Questionnaire.
