Job Summary
Assists electricians in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment and fixtures in city buildings and facilities (e.g., airport field lighting, exhibit booths, city buildings, pump stations, traffic signal lighting, and water plants) in compliance with federal, state, and local electrical codes.
Essential Functions
Assists electric engineers in the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment, lighting, and power circuits.
Troubleshoots simple electrical and electronic apparatus, motors, controls, and equipment using schematics to ensure compatibility and safety.
Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical equipment such as control circuits, lighting circuits, motors, and switchgear for new, temporary, and existing construction, ensuring code compliance.
Participates in inspections and evaluations of electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and necessary adjustments or repairs.
Documents maintenance and repair activities to provide accurate records of work performed and attends training opportunities to develop skills.
Performs preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and fixtures, detects hazards, connects and pulls wires according to diagrams to install and repair fixtures.
Reads blueprints or electrical diagrams to determine equipment locations and ensure building and safety code compliance.
Performs any and all other trade work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of electrical components and apparatus.
Knowledge of electrical codes and regulations.
Ability to read schematic diagrams and blueprints, troubleshoot electrical systems, and develop resolutions.
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, precision testing, and troubleshooting equipment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain strong professional relationships.
Education
High school diploma or GED.
Experience
One year of experience in construction, installation, maintenance, or repair of electrical equipment.
Licenses
Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Must have or be able to obtain a Texas Electrical Apprentice License before appointment.
Salary Range
$21.67 – $23.60 per hour. Starting salary within this range; final amount depends on qualifications.
