Relay Testing Technician
Join Apex Systems as a contract Low Voltage Technician to install, test, and commission protection and control circuits in substation settings.

Scope of Work – System Protection Technician Contractor Oversee installation by a wiring contractor for protection and control systems in a substation, including cable pulling, terminations, and verification of wiring for panels and equipment. Relays require settings application and testing to validate logic and set points. SEL manufactured protection devices; Dominion provides wire tag and panel label templates.
Responsibilities
Installing, testing, and removing digital fault recorders, communications equipment such as RTU’s and data concentrators, protective panels, and AC/DC systems.
End‑to‑end testing of substation SCADA systems with the operating center.
Power line carrier installation, commissioning, tuning, and calibration.
Fiber terminating and testing.
Loading current and potential circuits and verifying logic diagrams to digital setting files.
Ratioing current transformers in breakers, transformers, and stand‑alone applications.
Running automated test plans or protest plans to functionally test digital protection relays (SEL).
Basic Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience installing, testing, and commissioning protection and control circuits. Less experience acceptable when paired with more experienced personnel.
Working Locations Project locations in Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia.

Test reports such as CT ratio, relay test results, power line carrier or fiber level readings
In‑service readings
As‑built print package
Personnel
Vendor shall provide personnel dedicated to assigned projects through completion.
Prior to onboarding new contractors, Vendor will provide Dominion Energy with resumes for assigned staff. Vendor‑assigned personnel will be subject to Dominion Energy approval.
