Director of Manufacturing
The Director of Manufacturing oversees all cannabis production operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, compliance, and product quality across all manufacturing lines. This role leads production managers and cross-functional teams to maintain operational excellence, meet regulatory standards, and drive continuous improvement across processing, packaging, and finished-goods operations.
The Director ensures adherence to state cannabis manufacturing regulations, METRC reporting requirements, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and teamwork.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and supervise multiple managers and supervisors across production, packaging, and finished goods.
Ensure full compliance with all state manufacturing regulations and METRC inventory tracking requirements.
Develop, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) that meet regulatory, quality, and safety standards for cannabis products.
Coordinate all production planning, scheduling, and capacity management to achieve output, yield, and quality targets.
Partner with Quality Assurance and Compliance to prevent product contamination, recall, or regulatory violations.
Manage continuous improvement initiatives focused on throughput, cost reduction, and quality enhancement.
Establish and maintain production performance metrics including yield, labor efficiency, downtime, and waste reduction.
Ensure strict adherence to cleanliness, sanitation, and workplace safety policies consistent with OSHA and cannabis-industry standards.
Support R&D, and product development to scale new cannabis product lines (edibles, concentrates, pre-rolls, etc.)
Investigate and resolve any compliance, quality, or safety incidents promptly and thoroughly, lead corrective and preventive action plans.
Drive a culture of operational excellence, transparency, and accountability across all manufacturing departments.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 21 or over (required by law).
Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Food Science, Chemistry, or related field.
Minimum 5+ years of leadership experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (cannabis, food, pharmaceutical preferred.)
Strong understanding of GMP, OSHA, and state cannabis regulatory compliance requirements.
Demonstrated success in leading production operations, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop teams.
Proven ability to manage budgets, labor efficiency, and production KPIs.
Strong organizational skills and the flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving cannabis industry environment.
Proficient with ERP and manufacturing software systems; experience with METRC or similar seed-to sale tracking systems required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENT
Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or operate machinery, and communicate effectively.
Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Exposure to varying temperatures, odors, and airborne particles associated with cannabis processing.
May occasionally be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Must be able to work in manufacturing and production environments that include wet or humid conditions.
