Job Description Reporting to the VP of Global Communications, the Sr. Digital Marketing Director (Sr. DMD) serves as an integral member of the Global Communications Team, leading the organization's digital marketing strategy, content strategy, and funnel optimization efforts. The Sr. Digital Marketing Director oversees digital marketing and content initiatives and is responsible for architecting, directing, and continuously optimizing donor acquisition and engagement funnels from awareness through conversion and retention in partnership with, and at the direction of, the VP of Global Communications.

The Sr. DMD will possess a unique blend of strategic funnel expertise, advanced technical skills, and collaborative leadership abilities. Challenged to lead a team to drive measurable growth through sophisticated digital strategies, manage complex funnel optimization projects, and partner effectively with Global Communications team members, a successful Digital Marketing Director understands how to translate organizational objectives into high-performing digital experiences that drive sustainable growth and engagement.

Funnel Strategy & Optimization Leadership

Design and optimize organizational marketing funnels from initial awareness through conversion and long-term engagement

Design and implement sophisticated email management systems, including drip campaigns, behavioral triggers, lead nurturing sequences, and lifecycle marketing

Develop and execute advanced prospecting strategies utilizing multiple touchpoints, lead scoring, and progressive profiling

Create and optimize landing pages, lead magnets, and conversion paths to maximize funnel performance at each stage

Implement comprehensive funnel analytics, A/B testing protocols, and conversion rate optimization strategies

Direct Global Communications team efforts in SEO strategy, including keyword research, content optimization, technical SEO, and link building to drive organic funnel traffic

Manage and optimize paid advertising campaigns across Google Ads, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms with a focus on funnel efficiency and cost per acquisition

Develop retargeting and remarketing strategies to re-engage prospects at various funnel stages

Create advanced segmentation strategies for personalized funnel experiences based on behavior, demographics, and engagement levels

Digital Platform Management & Website Excellence

Collaborate with the VP of Global Communications to monitor organizational website performance, focusing on optimizing for search, user experience, and conversion funnel efficiency

Collaborate with the Creative Director and other team members to implement website design, email design, and digital platform experiences that support funnel objectives

Maintain and develop effective use of key platforms (WordPress, Virtuous, etc.) to support advanced funnel strategies

Email Management & Lead Generation Excellence

Design and execute sophisticated email marketing funnels, including welcome series, nurture campaigns, re-engagement sequences, and conversion campaigns

Implement advanced CRM email automation workflows based on user behavior, engagement levels, and funnel position

Develop comprehensive prospecting systems, including lead magnets, progressive profiling, and multi-channel outreach strategies

Manage email deliverability, list hygiene, and compliance with data privacy regulations

Creative Collaboration & Content Strategy

Partner with team members to develop a content strategy for both small-scale and large-scale projects, integrating funnel strategy with compelling creative execution

Collaborate with designers, copywriters, content creators, and other creative professionals to execute integrated campaigns optimized for conversion

Work with Global Communications Team members to align digital strategies with broader organizational messaging and brand guidelines

Ensure all digital creative outputs are optimized for conversion and aligned with the overall digital marketing strategy

Analytics & Performance Management

Report on comprehensive funnel metrics, including conversion rates at each stage, cost per acquisition, lifetime value, email deliverability, open rates, click-through rates, and revenue attribution

Conduct ongoing A/B testing of funnel components, including emails, landing pages, ad creative, and calls-to-action

Create comprehensive funnel reporting dashboards for leadership visibility into performance metrics

Present performance results and strategic recommendations to VP of Global Communications

Qualifications Experience & Education

8+ years of experience in digital marketing or advertising with proven funnel optimization expertise

5+ years of experience creating and optimizing marketing funnels from concept to execution with measurable results

5+ years of experience leading a team

Experience developing digital strategies while managing implementation on time and on budget

Demonstrated ability to create integrated content across all digital marketing channels

Bachelor's or Master's degree in marketing, communications, digital marketing, or related field

Demonstrated experience in funnel architecture, design, and optimization across multiple channels and touchpoints

Demonstrated experience of email marketing platforms, automation workflows, deliverability optimization, and advanced segmentation strategies

Proven expertise in paid advertising platforms (Google Ads, Facebook, LinkedIn) with a focus on funnel metrics and optimization

Experience with marketing automation platforms, CRM systems, and funnel analytics tools

Proficiency with A/B testing tools, heat mapping software, and conversion rate optimization platforms

Leadership & Collaborative Skills

Experience working in cross-functional creative environments where multiple disciplines contribute to campaign success

Service-oriented team player with a passion for organizational mission and the ability to work effectively in a creative environment

Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities to interface with creative professionals, stakeholders, and leadership

Ability to translate complex digital marketing concepts into actionable creative briefs and strategic direction

Strong copywriting skills with great attention to detail and the ability to optimize messaging for conversion

Experience presenting digital marketing strategies and results to executive leadership

The DMD would be expected to work a 40 hour work week, 24 hours (3 days per week) in office working closely with the Marketing and Communications team and other departments, and 16 hours (2 days per week) working from home.

Complete comprehensive audit of existing digital marketing funnels, email systems, website performance, and paid advertising campaigns

Establish baseline metrics for all key performance indicators, including conversion rates, email deliverability, organic traffic, and paid media ROI

Build relationships with Global Communications Team members and key stakeholders across departments

Begin implementing quick-win optimizations to existing funnels and email campaigns

Establish regular reporting cadence with VP of Global Communications

How to Grow & Optimise

Develop a comprehensive 12-month digital marketing strategy with a detailed funnel optimization roadmap

Launch first major funnel optimization initiative with measurable improvement targets

Implement advanced email automation sequences and begin A/B testing key funnel components

Optimize at least 3 high-traffic landing pages for improved conversion rates

Growth & Optimization Results

Demonstrate measurable improvements in key funnel metrics: 15%+ increase in email conversion rates, 20%+ improvement in landing page performance, or 10%+ reduction in cost per acquisition

Successfully launch and optimize a major integrated campaign in partnership with the Global Communications Team

Complete optimization of email deliverability and list management systems with improved engagement metrics

Present quarterly performance review with documented results, lessons learned, and strategic recommendations for continued growth

Build strong collaborative relationships that enable effective cross-departmental digital marketing support
