Conference & Event Services (CES) delivers exceptional service, resources, and support to events on the University of Denver campus. CES cultivates strategic relationships to ensure successful outreach to local, national, and global organizations.
Position Summary The Assistant Director of Event Sales & Operations ensures growth and operational excellence of CES. The role blends sales, marketing, and event management with leadership over lead generation, sales processes, client relationships, event operations, staff supervision, and execution of events ranging from small meetings to high-profile functions.
Essential Functions
Event Sales
– Manage sales opportunities, develop proposals, conduct site visits, lead negotiations, generate leads, provide forecasts, and prepare promotional materials.
Event Operations
– Oversee logistics, supervise campus-wide events, generate & review contracts, monitor assignments, ensure data accuracy, and provide on‑site support.
Leadership & Supervision
– Supervise Event Managers and staff, recruit, train, evaluate, maintain vendor relationships, and foster team culture.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated sales success – strategy, negotiation, lead cultivation.
Strong event operations and logistics expertise.
Excellent project management, organization, and multitasking under pressure.
Proven mentoring and professional staff support.
Outstanding communication and stakeholder relationships.
Strong analytical skills with data‑driven decisions.
Adoption of new technologies and digital systems.
Problem‑solving, strategic thinking, and calm high‑stress responses.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related technologies.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in business, communications, events, hospitality management or related field.
4–5 years of professional event management or sales experience.
At least two years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree or equivalent experience.
5+ years managing sales and events, preferably in an academic or non‑profit environment.
Experience with marketing automation, CRM platforms, survey tools.
Working knowledge of Momentus and 25Live scheduling software.
Experience managing events in higher education and VIP client work.
Successful long‑term client relationships and repeat business.
Collaboration with senior leadership and cross‑functional teams.
Working Environment
Standard office environment.
Quiet to moderate noise level.
Physical Activities
Extended computer work.
Occasional movement and transport of objects up to 50 lb.
Work Schedule Flexible schedule with some evening and weekend work required.
