Save Job

In an increasingly digitized economy, high‑speed, reliable internet connectivity has transitioned from a luxury to an essential utility. Aervivo is partnering with community owners, managers and leaders across the country to enable them to deliver reliable, affordable, gigabit‑managed Wi‑Fi to their residents, solving the connectivity and digital divide.

The Aervivo Cloud and Connectivity Platform currently connects tens of communities and thousands of residential units across the states of CA and UT and the Commonwealths of PA and MA. We have contracts and grant awards from numerous owners and funding programs and are growing rapidly, expanding within our existing footprint and shortly into other states.

We are looking to grow our small and passionate team, composed of veterans of Google, Verizon, Vivint, EducationSuperHighway and Clearwire. You’ll get to work in a high‑growth, impact‑focused, and collaborative start‑up environment with an open, inclusive culture and the opportunity to continue to increase your impact as we grow. Our team is 100% remote as we value phenomenal talent over location.

The Role We are seeking an experienced ISP/OSP Design Engineer who can hit the ground running and create clear, accurate, and build‑ready retrofit network designs for existing multi‑dwelling unit (MDU) communities.

You will design solutions that integrate fiber backhaul, wireless inter‑building connectivity, and structured cabling inside residential buildings. Typical deployments include:

Fiber backhaul to a central distribution point (e.g., Main Distribution Frame, communications room, etc.)

Wireless inter‑building connectivity (e.g., point‑to‑point and point‑to‑multi‑point radios, backhaul systems) to extend service to additional structures.

Intermediate distribution points (IDFs/telecom closets) strategically located within buildings — typically one per floor in mid‑rise and high‑rise deployments.

Structured cabling systems (Cat6 and/or fiber) delivering service from distribution points to individual units.

Your designs will enable deployment teams to build efficiently, minimize rework, and deliver reliable, code‑compliant solutions that property owners and residents can trust.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct field surveys and verification to assess existing infrastructure and scope new construction for broadband upgrades.

Develop OSP designs including conduit routes, pedestals, poles, aerial/underground paths, and outside cabinets.

Create ISP designs for pathways, risers, distribution closets, and equipment layouts within MDUs.

Produce construction‑ready drawings, schematics, and BOMs suitable for permitting and contractor execution.

Incorporate fiber, structured cabling, and wireless connectivity into cohesive network designs.

Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, and local low‑voltage codes.

Documentation & Quality

Interpret and review engineering drawings, specifications, and as‑builds for accuracy and compliance.

Translate site walk findings into clear documentation and property manager‑friendly design packages.

Define and maintain design guidelines (e.g., conduit vs raceway, drop ceiling use, surface vs recessed mounting, penetration methods, aesthetic finishes).

Project Coordination & Implementation

Collaborate with project managers, deployment, logistics, and contractors to ensure timely and cost‑effective implementation.

Provide technical guidance during installation, addressing design‑related issues in the field.

Recommend and implement best practices for fiber, wireless backhaul, and structured cabling deployments.

This is a full‑time position reporting to the Director of Network Design & Engineering in the Operations team. It will require frequent travel to job sites for the purposes of conducting surveys and interacting with vendors on aspects relating to network design.

Skills & Requirements

3+ years in OSP/ISP network design, structured cabling, or related telecom engineering roles.

Proven ability to produce construction‑ready documentation for permitting and field deployment.

Strong knowledge of fiber optic systems, structured cabling, and Ethernet‑based networks.

Familiarity with wireless backhaul and RF planning (point‑to‑point radios, WiFi mesh, mmWave/microwave) is a plus.

Proficiency with AutoCAD, SmartDraw, Visio, GIS platforms.

Understanding of telecom standards, NEC/NESC, and local building codes.

Ability to clearly explain designs to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and self‑driven.

Hands‑on field survey or installation experience (fiber splicing, MDF/IDF buildouts, structured cabling).

Familiarity with permitting and inspection processes.

Exposure to technologies such as Passive Optical Networks (PON), Ethernet (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A), and multi‑fiber cable systems.

Experience balancing standardized design templates with site‑specific customization.

Familiarity with workflow or CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) for design tracking.
