Overview
The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences in the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences at Clemson University seeks to fill a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position (70% research, 30% extension) to work on diseases of vegetable crops. Location
Pee Dee Research and Education Center (PDREC), near Florence, South Carolina, USA. PDREC’s 2,300 acres of crop and forest research land span Florence and Darlington counties, one of the major vegetable production areas in South Carolina. Position Description
PDREC is an integral part of Clemson University’s Public Service activities, including the Agricultural Research and Forestry system, the Advanced Plant Technology Program, the Cooperative Extension Service, and collaborates with several state Research and Education Centers. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous, innovative, and extramurally supported research program focused on vegetable crops of economic importance in South Carolina and the southeastern United States. Research must be responsive to grower and stakeholder needs. The candidate should collaborate with other faculty members in the department and college, interact with colleagues, stakeholders, and commodity groups, and participate actively in the training and mentoring of graduate students and postdocs. Excellence in grantsmanship and timely communication of research findings through peer‑reviewed publications are expected. Effective communication of findings with stakeholders is also required. Qualifications
Ph.D. in Plant Pathology or a closely related field. Track record of peer‑reviewed publication in relevant journals. Strong oral and written communication skills to convey information to different audiences (e.g., colleagues, growers, and students). Additional post‑graduate experience is desirable.
