La Capitol Federal Credit Union is seeking a

Mortgage Loan Originator

to serve our Hammond and New Orleans markets, with flexibility to support nearby locations as needed. This hybrid role focuses on obtaining applications for residential mortgage loans, building referral relationships within the community, and providing exceptional service to our members. The primary duty of this position is sales, and compensation includes a salary plus an incentive-based structure. Qualifications: Proven success in outside sales, preferably in mortgage lending or financial services Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or one year of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Solicit and secure mortgage loan applications through in-person sales calls, networking, and community engagement Cultivate and maintain referral relationships with Realtors, builders, financial professionals, and other third parties Conduct in-person meetings with prospective borrowers to present loan options, explain terms, and obtain completed applications Meet clients and referral sources outside of the office, including homes, real estate offices, builder sites, open houses, closings, and industry events Represent La Capitol FCU in the community to promote mortgage products and expand market presence Negotiate loan terms within established guidelines to obtain borrower commitment Guide applicants through the initial stages of the loan process, emphasizing closing the sale Provide necessary documentation to processing and underwriting staff and monitor loan progress to ensure borrower satisfaction Perform administrative tasks only incidentally; these are not primary duties Ensure applications comply with federal, state, secondary market, and internal lending regulations Maintain thorough knowledge of mortgage lending products, services, policies, and procedures Collaborate with processing, underwriting, and closing teams to ensure efficient loan flow Meet or exceed assigned production goals while maintaining high-quality member service Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive products Travel to local branches and/or events and meet with members and real estate agents Cross-sell lending and other credit union products to achieve CU goals Use training materials and reference tools to provide accurate loan program information Ensure exceptional member experience from origination to close, with ongoing communication Assist branch staff and co-workers, including pre‑qualification and member counseling Prepare compliance and regulatory documents, mortgage worksheets, and reports Perform pre‑audit and compliance checks to verify file completeness and accuracy Understand compliance issues and attend training on topics such as Bank Secrecy Act, Reg P, and Patriot Act Fax
