We are seeking a highly experienced and
hands-on Controller or Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
to assume a critical leadership role in overseeing all financial and accounting operations for a rapidly growing commercial real estate portfolio. Our focus is primarily on
shopping centers, development, and construction projects . This is a dynamic opportunity for a strategic leader who possesses a deep, specialized understanding of the unique financial dynamics and complex accounting requirements of the commercial real estate industry. The successful candidate will drive efficiency, ensure financial accuracy, and provide strategic insight to support portfolio growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership:
Oversee all accounting, financial reporting, and cash flow management functions across multiple legal entities and diverse development projects.
Team Management:
Supervise, train, and mentor the internal team of property accountants, bookkeepers, and project accounting staff.
Real Estate Accounting:
Lead all property-level accounting, including meticulous management of rent rolls, expense recoveries, complex lease accounting (ASC 842), and tenant billing.
Development & Construction Oversight:
Manage project financing, including draw schedules, detailed project cost tracking, capital budgeting, and comprehensive lender and equity reporting.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
Prepare annual operating budgets, quarterly forecasts, and sophisticated financial models for both portfolio-level performance and individual development projects.
Audit & Compliance:
Coordinate all activities with external auditors, lenders, and tax advisors, ensuring strict compliance with GAAP and real estate-specific regulatory requirements.
Process Improvement:
Identify, implement, and refine financial systems and controls to enhance overall accounting efficiency, reporting accuracy, and internal controls.
Qualifications
10+ years
of progressive experience in an accounting or finance leadership role, preferably within the
commercial real estate, development, or construction
sector.
Demonstrated expertise in
real estate-specific accounting
for properties (shopping centers preferred) and development projects.
Proven ability to manage and mentor an accounting team.
Strong financial modeling and analytical skills.
Experience structuring complex financing arrangements, including
real estate joint ventures
and debt placements.
Familiarity with
multi-entity consolidations
and complex ownership structures is highly desirable.
CPA designation is strongly preferred.
